Culinary schools, which are also known as cooking schools, are educational institutions. This is where individuals are taught the science and art that goes into food preparation. Those who attend and complete these culinary programs are given degrees that show they have undergone a specific curriculum and are competent.

Many schools work closely with restaurants. These facilities are a great place for students to get real-life experience working in a restaurant environment. Furthermore, it provides them with the chance to try various roles and see how a restaurant and kitchen can be run. Through this schooling, some may choose to take courses on starting restaurants, creating a line of products, releasing a cookbook and more.

Le Cordon Bleu is a culinary arts school that was first founded in Paris by Marthe Distel. This was around the 1890s. In August of 1902, Fannie Farmer, a well-known advocate of scientific cookery opened her school of cookery in Boston. This was not the first of its kind. Farmer herself had graduated and served as principal of Boston Cooking School at one point, which was founded in 1879 by WEA, Womens Education Association.

The curriculum in these programs varies. There are some programs in which chefs can demonstrate their skills and knowledge and be awarded certification. Other programs allow students to earn an associates or bachelors degree. Some places allow students to, upon graduation, receive a degree and certification.

Those who enroll in this kind of schooling typically have a strong passion for cooking and good. Some may have an inclination toward a certain type of cuisine and choose a facility that offers specialized classes on it. There are also different meal types that appeal to chefs, for instance: aspiring bakers who want to cook desserts only. There are many programs and facilities that offer specialized education programs for aspiring chefs.

At these facilities, students are taught how to prepare and present various foods. They also learn about proper food handling and storage. Students will get familiar with the various kitchen utensils and tools that are needed for cooking, as well as tricks and tips related to preparation and presentation. Some programs may provide detailed classes on how to work in the kitchen or own a restaurant.

Generally these places are designed for students looking for a career as a chef or in the restaurant field. However, there are some facilities that offer short classes or courses to the public in which they can learn the basics of cooking. Those who partake in these courses are usually not looking to earn a degree or certification and just want to learn more about working in the kitchen.

Culinary schools are located all across the globe. These facilities are designed to teach individuals how to prepare and cook food as professional chefs do. The program curriculum is expected to vary based on several factors. Those who are interested in working in this field should enroll at a school to get the proper training, certification and degree. The cost of this schooling will also range, but there are many entities that provide financial assistance via scholarships, grants and loans.
