Five Tips For Using Sun Fake Tanner

By Haywood Hunter

Lying in the sun for hours to darken your skin color can lead to unwanted side effects like burning, cancer, or early skin aging. Luckily for those people who like to have dark skin there are commercial products available that do not require sunlight. Using sun fake tanner is different from using tanning sprays and lying in the sun. Following the five tricks below may help you achieve long lasting natural looking results.

Choose a starting color close to your natural color. Most sun fake tanner products have a starting color. If you are light skinned and choose a dark starting color you may end up with a unnatural looking result. It may be a good idea to keep in mind that sun fake tanner lotion once applied cannot be turned off once it reaches the desired color.

Moisturize daily for a couple of days prior to sun fake tanner application. Doing so will help the sun fake tanner absorb correctly on rougher skin areas such as elbows and ankles. Exfoliation is also important the day of tanning. The sun fake tanner is applied to the outer layer of the epidermis which usually includes some dead skin cells. Exfoliating may help ensure a smooth natural finish once the lotion has dried and darkens.

When applying the lotion, make sure you cover all areas of skin which you are planning to let people see. If you are putting the lotion on your legs, for example, make sure to cover the whole area so that no spots will be left uncovered. Make sure you wash your hands immediately after you finish applying the product unless you want your palms to be tanned as well.

Before covering the area with clothing give the sun fake tanner ample time to dry. Waiting for the product to set ensures that some of it won't transfer onto other items like clothing or bed sheets.

Extend tanning results by not exfoliating or taking a long bath after tanning is complete. You may want to avoid shaving your legs or other areas where the product was applied for at least two days, because skin cells can also be removed causing fading of a fresh tan. Hair removal should be done before slathering on the sun fake tanner.

Using a sun fake tanner product may be a way to slow the effects of premature aging caused by over exposure to sunshine. However, if you want to make sure full coverage is achieved more easily going to a professional for sun fake tanner application is an option. Following the tricks above will help lengthen the stay of color on your skin and may help the sun fake tanner result look more natural.
